UNDP does not tolerate sexual exploitation and abuse, any kind of harassment, including sexual harassment, and discrimination. All selected candidates will, therefore, undergo rigorous reference and background checks.

Background
As the United Nations lead agency on international development, UNDP works in 170 countries and territories to eradicate poverty and reduce inequality. We help countries to develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities, and to build resilience to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Our work is concentrated in three focus areas; sustainable development, democratic governance and peace building, and climate and disaster resilience.

The UNDP Nordic Representation Office (UNDP/NRO) is a decentralized function of the UNDP Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy, which is responsible for partnerships and external communications. The main office is located in Copenhagen with satellite offices located in Oslo and Stockholm. UNDP/NRO plays a lead role in managing, continuously nurturing and strengthening UNDP’s partnership with the Nordic member states and their national constituencies with the overall aim of positioning UNDP as a development partner of choice, mobilising resources and building political support for the SDGs, UNDP’s strategic focus areas and work throughout the world.

UNDP/NRO also contributes to raising awareness of current global development challenges and opportunities, and to an informed and evidence-based development debate in the Nordic counties. To this end, UNDP NRO pursues effective communications outreach and advocacy to targeted stakeholders, arrange high-level and technical international missions, and organises and contributes to relevant meetings, seminars and conferences on topical development issues.

UNDP /NRO Denmark is located within the UN City in Copenhagen, which currently accommodates eleven UN agencies with a shared vision to strengthen multilateralism and to deliver on UN reforms through joint collaboration and advocacy when relevant. UNDP/NRO forms part of the UN team and plays an active role including in the UN City Interagency Communications Team.

Duties and Responsibilities
Under the overall guidance and supervision of NRO Team Lead for Denmark, the Communications Intern will support the daily work on external communications activities in Denmark and contribute to a number of communications tasks and assignments including:

  • Raise awareness, understanding and interest in UNDP’s mandate, work and results around the world, and in the context of the SDGs and the Paris Agreement.
  • Support and prepare posts for all UNDP Denmark’s social media platforms (X, LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram)
  • Support content update of UNDP’s Danish website www.dk.undp.org.
  • Prepare regular news scan.
  • Translate and adapt news articles, press releases, and other stories as needed.
  • Assist in preparing and coordinating missions, report launches and other events and activities led by UNDP/NRO Denmark.
  • Prepare input to presentations and briefing materials for missions and visits.
  • Perform other ad hoc tasks as required.

Competencies
The candidate should possess the following competencies:

  • Good written communication skills in both English and Danish.
  • A strong interest in international development issues and current global development agendas
  • Practical experience with social media.
  • Knowledge of publishing-, design- and web- and photo-editing tools is an advantage.
  • A demonstrated team player with ability to collaborate effectively and sensitively with colleagues from diverse cultural and national backgrounds
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of the UN/UNDP, the UN’s mission, and UNDP's mandate are an advantage.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Fluency in spoken and written Danish and English is required.
  • Applicants to the UNDP internship program must meet one of the following requirements:
  • Enrolled in a postgraduate degree program (e.g., master's program or higher).

  • Where an intern is financially supported by an institution, government or third party, UNDP will pay the intern the difference, if any, between the external financial support provided and the applicable UNDP stipend.
  • Except for the stipend, all other expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring government or institutions.
  • Interns are not considered staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.
  • The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNDP, but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship.
